Heka Incorporated is a Massachusetts vertically integrated medical/adult cannabis company, looking for an energetic HR manager to join our team, as we build our company to three locations within 2021-2022.

The focus of the HR manager is to oversee all HR functions, with a keen focus on maintaining and developing Heka’s culture. The HR Manager will be involved with recruiting skilled and passionate people, maintaining effective HR policies and promoting employee-focused internal communications. Additional responsibilities include recommending improvements to employee relations policies and ensuring that all employee-related policies align with our company goals, procedures and established regulations.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with the fast-pace of a new company start-up and is willing to do what it takes to assist the management team execute the opening of our business in this exciting new industry.

The position will require a minimum of 40-45 hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend work. Must be able to pass State background check.

Previous direct experience in HR role is required.


  • Understand the company mission and culture, speak it and continually educate all employees.
  • Develop hiring and recruiting processes, including, job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, new hire data entry.
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of job requisition / description for required competencies, skills, knowledge required of successful applicants from executive team or management.
  • Work with Hiring Manager to determine best fit candidates, coordinate interviews, receive timely feedback and present to executive management & manage new employee offers
  • Provide Hiring Manager with updates and summaries of recruiting progress and activity
  • Manage all HR functions company wide and report to company Directors.
  • Provide high-quality coaching and mentoring to management on employee relations and performance management issues.
  • Create and implement programs to help improve the employee experience
  • Filing worker’s compensation claims.
  • Responding to unemployment claims.
  • Maintain all employee files.
  • Assist with benefits open enrollment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Human Resources SOPs and policies.
  • Willing to take on other company projects and assist with duties that may not be HR related
  • Prepare and deliver all offers, severance and termination letters along with director of security.
  • Help develop, present and implement all onboarding and training materials for new employees.
  • Create and implement employee orientation and training programs.
  • Manage record keeping in a compliant and organized fashion.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline, preferred
  • 2-years directly related HR experience in an HR Generalist, HR Coordinator
  • Keen understanding in Massachusetts HR Policies and Procedures
  • Knowledge of hiring processes
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations
  • Superior communication skills
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and wear many hats
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high-level of professionalism and discretion
